tx relay thoughts

texas relays was held this past weekend and i read this article about how highland mall closed down earlier (at 2pm instead of the regular time of 9pm) on saturday due to safety reasons. many protested saying this was not a business decision but a racist decision instead.

as someone who lives in east austin nearby downtown, i can say that traffic was extremely chaotic this past weekend. i was even stuck at the intersection of 11th and i-35 for a good 15 minutes due to congestion and illegal driving manuevers. since i live so close to downtown, i'm used to various events that cause over-crowding in the downtown area and i have to say texas relay was the craziest i've seen it (sxsw is next in line however this conclusion could be more accurate if i knew the # of people each event draws).

i'm torn in how i think about highland mall's decision. what are your thoughts?

my thoughts: what is texas relay anyway? does it just mean a sudden influx of black people? The problem here is that other races are not as fast as the blacks. If so, it would just be an influx of people in general, and this would no longer be a race issue. So really, black people should just slow their roll, right?
